CTPM® Certification

The Certified Technical Program Manager® (CTPM®) credential is the industry standard for professionals who lead complex technical programs. Whether you’re pursuing certification for the first time or maintaining your active status, TPM Institute supports you through every step of your certification journey.

The CTPM® is built around the way technical programs actually run. It validates that you can connect system design and architecture decisions to program plans, keep delivery on track across teams, and lead the people who make it happen. For employers, it signals a program leader who can speak credibly with engineering while keeping stakeholders aligned on scope, timelines, and outcomes.

Most candidates prepare through the Certified Technical Program Manager Bootcamp, a live-online program delivered over Zoom with certification included. It covers the full program lifecycle, from high-level system design through execution, stakeholder management, and communication.

Certification Blueprint

The CTPM® exam assesses competency across three core disciplines — Technology (44%), Program Management (33%), and People (23%). Review the full exam blueprint to understand the structure, key topics, and what to expect on exam day.

Technology covers system design and architecture, database and networking fundamentals, and security. Program Management covers planning, execution and control, and stakeholder management. People covers leadership, team building, communication, and collaboration.

Certification Renewal

Maintaining your CTPM® credential demonstrates your continued commitment to professional excellence. Certified TPMs must meet renewal requirements every 2 years, including verified professional experience and reference submission.

Each 2-year cycle requires at least 1,000 hours of hands-on work in a Technical Program Management role, a documented work experience summary, and three professional references. Renewal keeps your credential active and shows employers your skills are current.
